Ottawa, Ontario - Speech-language pathologists
in the Ottawa District School Board are sending school-age
speech and language fact sheets (available from CASLPA) to
all the principals in the Ottawa school board, encouraging
them to include portions of it in their school newsletters
that are distributed to students and parents.
Winnipeg, Manitoba - Billboard campaign in
ten locations throughout the month of May promoting listening,
hearing and speaking.
Eastern Canada
Nova Scotia - "Talk and Learn With
Kids" (T.A.l.K.) is directed to increasing public awareness
of hearing, speech, language development, encourage early
referral to community Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
services, and provide a continuing education opportunity for
Early Childhood Educators in techniques to faciliate speech,
language, and pre-literacy skills during typical children's
group activities. The visiting Speech-Language Pathologist
provides demonstration activities and Resources (e.g. developmental
chart/"fridge poster", tips, featured children's
book) to the preschool/daycare centre and for the children
to take home to their families.
