49 CASLPA speech-language pathologists
and audiologists joined 55 physiotherapists and 68 occupational
therapists to participate in a Primary Health Care Leadership
Summit held at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, November
6-7, 2008. Co-hosted by
CASLPA, CAOT and CPA, the conference explored the topic
of Advancing Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Primary
Health Care.
Delegates
enjoyed a plenary address by Michael Decter, former chair
of the Health Council of Canada and the National Board
for the Canadian Institute of Health Information, who
shared his perspectives on the Canadian health environment.
Concurrent education sessions
were held on three topics: negotiations, media relations
and lobbying and we are pleased to make the session presentations
available for download.

Next Steps - CAOT,
CASLPA and CPA in Action!
These three associations, their members
and the clients they serve all share a common concern with
the issue of access to service. With a shared vision that:
"all residents of Canada, irrespective of finances,
social, cultural or geographic considerations, should have
access to the services they require from audiologists, occupational
therapists, physiotherapists and speech-langauge patholgists"
the three groups will work together towards a national primay
health care framework.
You can help. The contact you can make
with government decision makers can help the national
associations fight for what is needed. Take an active
role in spreading the message to your MPP/MLA.
