Interprofessional Caseload Management Planning
Tool Project
CASLPA is delighted to announce that funding was secured from
Health Canada in January 2009, to conduct a project to develop
a Caseload Management Planning Tool in occupational therapy,
physiotherapy and speech-language pathology. The project will
run from January 2009 -March 2011, under a joint partnership
with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT)
and the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA)
The goal is to develop an Interprofessional Caseload Management
Tool (TOOL) as an evidence-based tool or structured set of factors
and considerations to assist individual professionals, organizations
and policy makers in determining effective caseload management
for occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech-language
pathology services in Canada. The project will also integrate
an understanding of the competencies of the three professions
into the (TOOL) to facilitate the effective and efficient matching
of human resources to a wide variety of client populations and
service delivery models.
CASLPA speech-language pathologists have expressed concerns
over caseload in membership surveys and there will be ample
opportunities to provide input to the development of the tool
through surveys and pilot projects. CASLPA's 2003 report on
a survey of members and information on their caseloads can be
