Navid Shahnaz, PhD, Aud(C)
Navid has been a CASLPA certified
member since November 1995 and is also a registered audiologist,
hearing instrument practitioner, and certified in vestibular
assessment and management with the College of Speech and Hearing
Health Professionals of British Columbia. Currently, he is
an associate professor of audiology in the School of Audiology
& Speech Sciences at the University of British Columbia
(UBC), where he has been since July 2002. He has also been
working as an audiologist during this time in a private practice
dispensing hearing aid, assessing vestibular problem, and
conducting diagnostic audiological test batteries, including
central auditory processing assessment.
Before joining UBC, Navid was an assistant professor
of speech and hearing sciences at the University of Arizona
for two years. He received his MSc (1996) and PhD (2000) degrees
in audiology and communication sciences and disorders from
the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, McGill
University. During his residency at McGill University, he
served as a faculty lecturer and clinical supervisor of audiology
for three years. Before joining McGill University to pursue
his studies he was working as a clinical audiologist, instructor,
and researcher for six years at Tehran Medical Sciences University
and in other private practice sectors in Tehran, Iran. His
main area of research interest includes multi-frequency tympanometry,
Wide Band Energy Reflectance, otoacoustic emission, and acoustic
reflex studies in adults as well as newborns. He is also interested
in the effect of personal listening devices (iPods) on hearing.
Other areas of research interests are extended high frequency
thresholds estimation in different ethnic groups and cochlear
dead region.
Navid always been interested in promoting his
profession by getting involved in different aspects of our
professional association. He served as a member of CASLPA
audiology clinical certification examination committee for
six years and have been a consultant to the British Columbia
early hearing screening program since its inception. He believes
serving his professional association is an immensely valuable
professional activity, which broadens my professional horizon.
