Mary Lynn Taschereau-Park, CASLPA Board of Directors
Supportive Personnel Representative

Mary Lynn Taschereau-Park, BA (Hons.), B.ed., CDA
Communicative Disorders Assistant

Mary Lynn Taschereau-Park was appointed to the CASLPA board as the Supportive Personnel Representative in November 2008. She is a Communicative Disorders Assistant with over 10 years experience working with preschool and school-aged children who have speech and language delays and disorders. Mary Lynn believes that supportive personnel can work collaboratively with speech-language pathologists and audiologists in order to enhance services provided to many populations in a wide variety of settings. Her work with young children has only strengthened her belief that early intervention is key and that it is crucial to actively involve the family in the process. Furthermore, the goal should always be to assist the child in becoming the most effective communicator possible.

Mary Lynn attended Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (specialties: anthropology and French) in 1995. During the third year of this undergraduate degree she studied at the Université de Nantes in France. In 1996 she completed her Communicative Disorders Assistant post graduate diploma from Georgian College in Orillia, Ontario. The following year she completed her Bachelor of Education in the On-Site Teacher Education Program at the University of Ottawa. In addition to CASLPA membership, she is also a member of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada and a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Mary Lynn has worked as a Communicative Disorders Assistant at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa for over 10 years. She has worked with both the in-patient 0-18 population and the preschool out-patient population at the hospital and at a community site. In this role she has worked collaboratively with speech-language pathologists in order to provide speech and language therapy to children and their families. She has also had the opportunity to assist with research projects and worked hand-in-hand with staff in order to develop and implement group motor speech therapy for children under the age of three. In 1999 Mary Lynn was elected to a three year directorship on the board of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada.

Mary Lynn is thrilled to be the Supportive Personnel Representative on the CASLPA Board. This is an exciting time for supportive personnel members and she looks forward to seeking and providing input on their behalf. She is currently chairing the Expert Committee on Supportive Personnel issues, is a member of the CASLPA Awards Committee and has collaborated with the CASLPA Supportive Personnel Working Group. Professional recognition of supportive personnel, professional development for supportive personnel, and public awareness of supportive personnel top the list of goals that Mary Lynn is keeping at the forefront in her role on the Board. She welcomes input from the membership as this new supportive personnel membership category takes shape.
