Duncan Floyd, CASLPA Board of Directors
Nova Scotia Representative

Duncan
Floyd, M.Sc. Aud.(C)
Duncan Floyd is an audiologist and a member
of CASLPA's board of directors, representing Nova Scotia.
He has 13 years of experience in the field and has worked
in rural, urban, private, public, medical, business and academic
settings. Duncan believes in an active and busy approach to
clinical work, with a focus on direct-contact time, which
is an important way of serving the community at large.
Duncan received a BA from the University of
King's College in 1989 and a Master of Science degree from
Dalhousie in 1996. He is a certified member of CASLPA.
Duncan began his career with the Nova Scotia
Hearing and Speech Centres and is currently partially employed
there. He also works at Dalhousie University's School of Human
Communication Disorders where he is the Clinical Coordinator
for Audiology. Duncan previously has worked in an ENT practice
in Northern Maine and, in 2001, participated in the first
year of Dalhousie's Audio-China project in the Sichuan Province
of China. His particular areas of interest include clinical
masking, acoustic impedance measures, behaviour management
and counselling.
Duncan has served on the boards of the Society
of Deaf & Hard of Hearing Nova Scotians (Cape Breton chapter)
and the Caribou Golf and Country Club. He is an active participant
in the Holy Cross Cemetery Restoration Project in Halifax.
The experiences Duncan has had over the past
13 years are quite varied. He is interested in exploring this
new opportunity to work with CASLPA, but the real reason why
he wants to serve on the CASLPA board of directors is because
he was asked to do so. The profession of audiology has been
very good to Duncan and he would like to be able to say that
he has given back to it. Aside from being a member, he has
not been extensively involved in CASLPA activities. Duncan
has served on the executive of the Speech and Hearing Association
of Nova Scotia (SHANS) for two years.
