Melanie Osmond, CASLPA Board of Directors
Alberta Representative

Melanie Osmond, M.Sc., R.SLP, S-LP(C)

Melanie is a speech-language pathologist with six years of experience, currently working in Northern Alberta. She believes in a collaborative approach to clinical work and the importance of being involved in her professional organizations.

Melanie received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2001 and then a Master of Science Degree in Human Communication Disorders from Dalhousie University in 2004. Melanie is a certified member of CASLPA and a registered speech-language pathologist in Alberta.

She began her career in New Brunswick with the Extra-Mural Program, community-based healthcare, working predominantly with school-aged children and adults. In 2009, Melanie moved to Alberta, and began working at the Northwest Health Centre in the town of High Level. Her current caseload consists mostly of preschool and school-aged clients. She is also a team member on a regional fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) diagnostic clinic team. Melanie has special interests in the areas of social language difficulties, group therapy models, early intervention and FASD.

Early in her career, Melanie became involved with her professional associations. While in New Brunswick, she served a two-year term as registrar with the New Brunswick Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists and then served as the CASLPA board director from New Brunswick. In her role as CASLPA board director, she had the opportunity to be a member of the standards advisory committee, chair the child language recommended wait times working group and present CASLPA's noisy toys campaign to her local Member of Parliament. Since moving to Alberta, Melanie has continued her involvement with her professional associations. She is currently on an ACSLPA committee to develop clinical documentation and record keeping preferred practice guidelines. Melanie is also a member of CASLPA's awards committee.

Melanie is involved in CASLPA because she believes in the importance of giving back to her professional organizations. She was a board member when CASLPA's 2009-2011 strategic plan was developed and has been proud to witness her association meet so many objectives for each key result area. She is excited to see what the next strategic plan will bring.
