Certification Exam

CASLPA grants clinical certification to speech-language pathologists and audiologists who successfully complete the clinical certification exam and fulfill other requirements as set out by CASLPA national standard including, possession of a master's degree in audiology and/or speech-language pathology or equivalent, hold full membership in CASLPA and meet praticum requirements. The exam is offered to students who have completed all course work requirements and are anticipating graduation in the calendar year of the exam, to members in good standing, and members whose applications are in process of evaluation. To maintain clinical certification status, members must accrue 45 continuing education equivalents (CEEs) over a 3-year period. A wide variety of activities are acknowledged to reflect the interests of members and the opportunities available. Reports on CEEs must be recorded by members and submitted annually in January.

You MUST BE A FULL MEMBER in good standing in order to become clinically certified through CASLPA.

Membership in the Association is available to individuals who are graduates of Canadian university programs in speech-Language pathology or audiology, or graduates of non-Canadian programs judged to be equivalent. If you are currently a member of one of the provincial/territorial associations, your membership in CASLPA can be facilitated.

If you are not a CASLPA member, please click on our membership link for full details, fee schedule and application forms. Your membership application must be complete before you may apply for clinical certification.

CASLPA has mutual recognition agreements with some international professional associations and there are requirements and procedures before applying for membership and clinical certification with CASLPA.

International graduates are sometimes required to pass the clinical certification examination by one of the regulatory bodies and, once licensed, are then eligible to apply for CASLPA membership and clinical certification.

Tips for preparing to write the CASLPA clinical certification exams

Becoming Clinically Certified

Successful examination candidates must have their transcripts indicating degree granted and their completed supervised clinical hours forms submitted to CASLPA national office by their university before clinical certification is granted. These materials must be submitted by the end of the year in which the exam is written. A certificate of clinical certification is forwarded to the newly certified member, the member is assigned to a
3-year continuing education cycle and starts to collect continuing education equivalents (CEEs) in the January following the certification date.

Maintaining Clinical Certification

To maintain clinical certification, the member must pay their annual membership fees and meet the continuing education (CE) requirements of 45 hours over their 3-year cycle. Continuing education activities can be reported online at www.caslpamembership.ca or CEE forms are available online on the website.
